OUR FOUNDER
Ted Thompson
Ted Thompson's life story is a testament to the power of personal initiative and community service. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Wichita, Kansas, he pursued a career in healthcare, ultimately becoming a certified Nurse Anesthetist. His professional journey took him through various educational institutions, including Wichita State University, St. Frances School of Nursing, and Ottawa University in Kansas City, where he earned a BS degree in Health Care and Adult Education.
In 1980, Ted married Kathy, whom he met over an operating room table. They raised two children and now have six grandchildren. Upon retiring, they settled in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where they became active members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Ted even served as Treasurer at the church.
Retirement didn't slow Ted down; instead, it opened up opportunities for community involvement. Volunteering at the Eleanor Klugh Jackson House Crisis Intervention Center, Ted witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by the center in acquiring food for those in need. This experience led him to join the Project HOPE Health Coalition, a group dedicated to addressing local food insecurity issues.
In March 2009, Ted took a significant step by founding the Project HOPE Food Bank, after obtaining the necessary 501(c)3 certification. This initiative brought together healthcare professionals, pantry operators, and community members to establish a local food bank aimed at alleviating hunger in the area.
Beyond his philanthropic efforts, Ted enjoys traveling with his wife and cherishing moments with their extended family. He also shares his passion for nutrition and cooking as a home chef, imparting his knowledge to others.
Ted Thompson's story exemplifies how one person's dedication and action can create a ripple effect, inspiring others to join in the fight against food insecurity. His commitment to service underscores the profound impact individuals can make within their communities.
